Mr. Ellsberg, I am reading Secrets and I can hardly put it down. I knew some of these things as I was in RVN with the First Infantry Division 65-66,as an infantryman, my only MOS, and with M
ACV 69-70 in the bottom on the delta advising the RF/PF's. After that tour I was assigned to an Army school to teach NCO's going or returning to RVN about the war, the NLF etc;etc. I read extensively to prepare myself and found out much of what you had discovered in 69-70 about the history of the French and the US in RVN. I managed to keep my job and my rank in spite of telling my fellow noncoms that it was a "shit deal" and they should go only because they must and to keep their heads down and do everything possible to keep their men and themselves alive. I spent 25 years in the Army and another 15 teaching JROTC after I retired. I told hundreds of high school kids the same about the war in Viet Nam. When Bush the Lessor started his wars I quit my job and retired feeling quite hopeless about this country--Obama has not made me feel better, yet.

I thank you for your part in ending that war and only wish we could stop war altogether. I am a fan of your late pal Howard Zinn also and quoted him often in my JROTC classes.

Sincerely

Rich McConchie

Thank you for your sensitive and loving portrait of Howard Zinn. He was one of my heros. My husband was killed in Vietnam in 1969 and I appreciated the efforts of you and Howard to end the war.

I just heard you on Bob Edward's Weekend. My ears were glued to the radio as you were telling Mr. Edwards how you managed to obtain the papers that later became public.
Now I learn from your website you were close friends with my hero Howard Zinn. Thank you for that story of getting the papers to Mr Zinn on a Movie outing with your wives.
I also learned our birthday's fall within a month of each other.
I will see the movie, The most dangerous man in America as soon as I can.
And thank you again for leading a great Patriotic life.

United with millions of other people I felt the loss of Howard Zinn.. Back in 1971, when I was a high school student; Professor Zinn and I shared print in my local New Bedford sub-Standard Times when along with many others we were arrested for blocking the federal building in goverment center.. You did a nice job recounting the scene that day.. I especially recall the congeniality of the TAC squad before they attacked and the beating in the elevator going down into the garage below for processing.. A concrete lesson about the State.
